Cookie Cards: Sugar Cookie Decorating Guides
Use my Cookie Cards below as a guide to decorate your Halloween sugar cookies. Step by step photos plus written instructions give you all the details that you need to create beautifully decorated sugar cookies of your own.
Decorate a Ghost Cookie
with Buttercream Icing
- Pipe an outline around the edge of the ghost.
- Fill in the ghost using a back and forth motion, creating horizontal lines of icing.
- Pipe a curved black line from one hand to the other for the string of the banner.
- Pipe black eyes and a smile.
- Pipe the outline of three upside down triangles attached to the ribbon to create the flags of the banner. Fill in the triangle flags with a back and forth motion.
- Pipe one letter of the word BOO on each flag.
PRO TIP: Be sure to cut the opening of the black icing bag small enough to be able to pipe the letters on the flag banner.
Decorate a Jack O Lantern Cookie
with Buttercream Icing
- Pipe an outline around the edge of the pumpkin, except the stem.
- Fill in the pumpkin using a back and forth motion, creating horizontal lines of icing.
- Pipe an outline around the stem and fill it in using a back and forth motion.
- Pipe 2 horizontal lines for the tops of the glasses. Pipe 2 half circles under the horizontal lines. Pipe a curved line connecting the 2 lenses. If desired, go over these lines again to thicken them up.
- Pipe black eyes, eye brows and a smile. Add white dots to the eyes.
PRO TIP: There are so many different choices for fun jack o lantern faces. Draw some practice designs on a piece of paper before you pipe on your cookie.
Decorate a Treat Bucket Cookie
with Buttercream Icing
- Pipe an outline around the edge of the bottom half of the cookie to create the treat bucket.
- Fill in the treat bucket using a back and forth motion, creating horizontal lines of icing.
- Pipe an outline around the edge of the top half of the cookie. Fill in using a back and forth motion.
- Pipe a black line around the top edge of the cookie for the handle of the treat bucket.
- Pipe a jack o lantern face on the treat bucket and fill it in.
- Add sprinkles on the top line of the treat bucket for the candy peeking out.
PRO TIP: For an alternate design, decorate this cookie as a traditional candy corn with three sections of different colors.
